Weston Lullingfields CE Primary School follows the National Curriculum and offers the children the core subjects of Literacy, Numeracy, Science and PE alongside opportunities for learning in History, Geography, Music, Art and Design, Technology, French and RE. Because we are a church school, specific Christian education is also taught by Rev. Linda, our local Rector.
In addition, we feel strongly that we should offer a range of extra activities that broadens the curriculum further as part of our extended school provision so have offered horse-riding, recorders, arts and crafts, nature studies, cooking, sailing, film making, team games and sports clubs in the past. We change the clubs each term and we are also working with other schools in the area to provide longer term access to more specialised teaching, particularly in sports.
As we are a small school with mixed aged classes, our objectives and statutory objectives outlined in the National Curriculum are necessarily spread over several years. For example, our topic work which covers geography, history, art and design, design and technology and ICT is based on a four year cycle across the school, whilst other subjects, such as science, RE and worship, and literacy are based on a two-yearly cycle depending on the requirements of the programmes of study. There are, such as in spelling and grammar, year by year plans. All of these plans come together under our four year cycle of topic plans which provide a context and theme for all the work that we do in that particular term, giving us opportunities to work in a cross curricular way.
