Weston Lullingfields CE Primary School offers its teaching and enlightened curriculum to parents and children who are not currently in full-time education, but who would value a part-time link with just the right school if they could only find it!
This is a very small and friendly school, currently with 51 children aged 3-11 set in the beautiful North Shropshire countryside. A recent inspection has confirmed a considerable improvement under new leadership. More importantly our motto is ‘Small school, big family’ and we pride ourselves on the individualised care and learning we offer to all our existing children. One of our recent recruits who joined us after several unhappy years elsewhere described us as ‘having changed her life’ in her end of year 6 leavers speech.
We offer places to families who would value the opportunity to complement the learning which takes place at home by agreeing areas of study which could be provided and supported by the school. Programmes of work are individually negotiated to take into account the requirements of the family.
One particularly enlightened aspect of the school curriculum is the notion of creative learning days. So far we have enjoyed a Greek themed day and others about extreme environments and the Stone Age. On these days, the whole school works together in practical activities (e.g. making simple pots, rainproof shelters, using natural resources for food and drink), listening to specialist speakers (e.g. a sponsored adventurer, a naval commander, a contestant on a Bear Grylls survival programme), or learning through dance, music and drama. These have been very stimulating examples of our commitment to a broader, more participative and personalised form of learning.
The school will continue to draw on the expertise and knowledge of people in the community which will tie in with the acknowledged teaching and support skills of the staff. We are in contact with Peter Humphreys, who is a director of the Centre for Personalised Education, and a strong supporter of flexi-schooling.
We welcome enquiries to the school business manager, Paula MacDonald in the first instance who will make arrangements for you to visit us or for someone to ring you back for a detailed conversation. Her contact details are 01939 260306 or email@example.com
